Walking - For the walker the Borders offers space to breathe clean air and the chance to walk green rolling hills, river valleys, forests, fascinating historic sites and interesting towns and villages. Riding - The Scottish Borders is known as "Scotland's Horse Country". Riding centres and schools cater for everyone from novices and small children to the more advanced. The Scottish Championship Horse Trials at Thirlestane Castle attracts top eventers in August.

Cycling - Quiet country lanes carrying little traffic, dead end roads leading up river valleys, forestry routes and challenging hill country offer a wide variety of options. Slow and leisurely or tough and demanding as you wish.
