This model industrial village is a world heritage site, and makes a fascinating day out. The founders of the community proved that an industrial community could also be aesthetically pleasing, with a satisfied, productive workforce. Indeed, New Lanark was home to the world's first day nursery. Situated a mile below the main town of Lanark, the old mill buildings run alongside the edge of the River Clyde, and there are many more attractions and walks past the Falls of the Clyde as painted by Turner.
