House & Grounds

Skirling House was designed by renowned architect Ramsay Traquair and built in 1908.

The house, built for Sir Gibson Carmichael, the then governor of Bengal, incorporates an 18th century farmhouse and barn. The house also features many exquisite decorative ironworks, designed by Traquair and forged in Edinburgh by Thomas Hadden. These distinctive designs can be seen on doors and window latches, beautiful fireplaces, handles, light fittings and outside on the latern, door insets and bell. Everywhere you look you see the mastery and imagination of Traquir.

In the drawing room guest can marvel at the magnificent Florentine ceiling with individual carved and painted roses dating from 1590. This, together with the log fire provides a welcome retreat after dinner or during the afternoon relaxing after a brisk walk.

Grace, simplicity and originality of design combine with the modern day comforts and excellent cuisine to make Skirling House a place of rare character.
